Future Cities Club

TThe Future Cities Club is part of a national program sponsored by the engineering community to promote technological literacy and engineering for seventh grade students.  The program fosters an interest in math, science, geography, and engineering through hands-on, real world applications.  The program is for groups of four students per team and runs from late September to mid-January and is conducted in four phases:

  • Phase I – computer simulation - design a future city using the SIMCity4 software,
  • Phase II – draft a 300-500 word abstract on their city and a 1,000-word essay focused on a predetermined topic that is changed from one year to the next,
  • Phase III – using recycled and other materials, build a scale model of a portion of their SIM CITY created during phase I, and,
  • Phase IV – travel to Boise and give a 5-7 minute formal presentation to two panels of judges.
